Dermoplast Sprays
1. How and where can I use Dermoplast?
Dermoplast Spray should only be used topically (on the skin) on the affected, irritated areas. It should only be used externally. To use Dermoplast spray, clean the affected areas first then simply spray on the affected areas while holding the can 6-12 inches away. Do not use Dermoplast spray in or around your eyes. To use Dermoplast on your face, spray it in your palms and apply it with your hands. Do not spray the affected areas more than 3-4 times a day and do not use Dermoplast for longer than seven days. You should consult your doctor if the condition persists, gets worse, or  if the condition clears up and occurs again within a few days.

2. My friend has recommended using Dermoplast for pain relief after I have my baby. What should I know?
Dermoplast was originally invented as an alternative to pain relieving creams and gels given to episiotomy patients and has helped many new mothers through an uncomfortable part of the birthing process. As a spray it offers the advantage of having a “no-touch” application and therefore avoids the discomfort associated with the need to rub a product on a sensitive area. Dermoplast Spray is widely used in hospitals for the relief of pain due to stretching and tearing of the perineum as well as the general skin irritation and discomfort that accompany delivery. If your friend has recommended using Dermoplast, you should consult with your Doctor, Nurse, or Midwife as well for additional guidance.

3. What is the difference between the Blue can and the Red can?
The Blue can is the original formula of Dermoplast, and the red can is a similar formula which also contains an antiseptic ingredient to protect against infection. The original formula contains a higher level of menthol which provides soothing, cooling relief on contact. For the sensitive tissue involved with post-childbirth discomfort, we recommend using the original ‘blue’ formula due to its long-standing safety record for that application.  

4. Can I use Dermoplast spray for Hemorrhoids?
Since the FDA has not evaluated and approved the use of Dermoplast spray for hemorrhoids, we can not market or promote the use of it for that indication.

5. Can I use Dermoplast Spray on Children?
Yes. In fact cuts, scrapes, sunburns and other minor skin irritations are some of the most common uses for Dermoplast Spray. For young children, under age two, you should always consult your doctor before using Dermoplast or any other medication.

6. Can I bring Dermoplast Spray on a plane?
You should check with your airline before flying. The rules and regulations surrounding aerosol canisters can change. According to the Transportation Security Administration, in general, it is fine to pack these items in either checked or carry-on bags, but travelers should check with their airline before flying with aerosol canisters as some canisters are flammable.

7. Can I use Dermoplast on my pets after they have surgery?
The FDA administers human and pet products separately. While Dermoplast has been approved for use on humans it has not been tested and approved for use on pets by the FDA.

8. What is the shelf life of Dermoplast?
The Dermoplast sprays you buy in the store do not have an expiration on them because they have been tested to be shelf stable for at least 5 years. We recommend that if you think your product is older than 5 years old that you replace it with a new can.

9. Is Dermoplast Spray Flammable?
The formula itself is not flammable, but the propellants used to spray the formula are.

10. What is Benzocaine?
Benzocaine is a topical anesthetic used to numb the area where it is applied. The FDA has approved benzocaine as a safe and effective over-the-counter medication for the treatment of pain and itching from minor skin irritations.

Dermoplast Poison Ivy Treatment
1. Does Dermoplast Poison Ivy Treatment work on the rash from Poison Oak and Poison Sumac.
Yes. The rash from all three is caused by urushiol oil found in the sap of the plants.

2. Is it safe to use on kids?
Yes, but as with all medications, please consult with your doctor before using on children under age two.

3. What makes your product different than the others on the market?
Dermoplast Poison Ivy Treatment is the only product to combine an effective wash to get rid of the oils that cause the rash along with an FDA approved medicated ingredient to treat the itch associated with the rash in a single formula.

4. Do I need to use water?
Yes. To use the product you need to wet the area before applying the lotion. The water is also needed to thoroughly rinse the affected areas, which is essential in removing the oils.

5. What else should I do to prevent another rash?
Learning to identify and avoid poison ivy is the best way to avoid the rash in the future. There are many excellent sources you can consult on the internet that will help you understand what poison ivy (and its cousins) look like. It is advisable to wear clothing that will cover your skin when you go to an area that you suspect might have poison ivy. It is also important to thoroughly wash anything that may have come in contact with the oils – Wash all clothes, gloves, shoes, linens, any tools or implements, and any pets that may have touched the plants. The oils can remain for long periods so it is important to get rid of it before it causes a recontamination.
